Finns still prefer cash payments. A vast proportion of webshop payments are made using bank payment buttons despite the fact that consumer protection is better when using other payment methods. Only in purchases over one hundred euros the percentage of other payment methods exceeds 20 percent. Payment methods with a longer payment period or credit are evidently used for financing a more costly purchase or splitting the cost on several months.
The higher percentage of payment cards in purchases under ten euros is related to the new services, which enable easy charging of small amounts simply by adding the payment card details to the service, and using a password for the actual purchase. Apple iTunes introduced this payment method to the consumers, and it is presumed that it will take a major percentage of all small charges in the near future in Finland as well.
